African Promise Expeditions is excited to announce our 2023 Dare To Lead™ journey. The trip will be filled with personal development, mindfulness, cultural immersion, and adventure safari! Suzy Benson, a certified Dare To Lead™ facilitator, will lead you through experiential workshops on vulnerability, BRAVING, Rising Strong topics, etc. In addition, you will participate in parts of Brené Brown's Dare To Lead™ courage-building program.

THE EXPERIENCE
Experience the trip of a lifetime as you visit Uganda, Africa. When you arrive at African Hospitality Institute, you will be greeted by AHI staff. They will be waiting with freshly squeezed passion fruit juice and a warm wash cloth to help you refresh after your long journey!

• Your first night will be spent at Banana Village in Entebbe. Banana village is known for it's friendly monkeys and delicious passion fruit juice. 
• Travel by bus to Nakasongola, a village in central Uganda where you will immerse yourself in a village for 7 days.
• Bring out your inner child and play in the mud as you work with locals to "mud" a building or classroom.
• Other activities will include learning to make local food with AHI staff, milking a cow with a farmer, working in a kitchen cooking with students, doing home "visits" to local families, and much more.  
• You will also be able to work with Cornerstone Leadership Academy, a high school for potential leaders doing experiential activities and forming lasting relationships.
• You will participate in Dare To Lead™ workshops and discussions learning to become a more courageous version of yourself. There will also be opportunities to learn about mindfulness and practice meditation if you would like!
• Finish the trip with an incredible adventure to Murchison Falls National Park, where you will go on a safari and a Nile River boat cruise.  

IMPORTANT TO NOTE 

• This trip is NOT about serving Africans, but rather an experiential adventure that will expose you to Ugandan culture and community.
• Our engagement in service is in partnership with local communities. Part of your trip fee is funding these projects.
• This experience is about building relationships with Ugandans, fellow group members, and, most importantly, connecting with yourself.
• A certified professional coach, Suzy will lead the group in discussions about servant-leadership, compassion, empathy, and kindness.
• This experience can be transformative in all areas of your life! We welcome those who are flexible, ready to learn, and prepared with an open heart to learn and grow beyond measure!​

About The Dare To Lead Program
Based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown, Dare to Lead™ is an empirically based courage building program designed to be facilitated by organizational development professionals.
The most significant finding from Brené’s latest research is that courage is a collection of four skill sets that are teachable, measurable, and observable. The Dare to Lead™ program focuses on developing these courage building skills through workshops, trainings, and coaching to help individuals, teams, and organizations move from armored leadership to daring leadership.

SUZY BENSON Suzy Benson is the founder and former director of African Promise Foundation, a partner organization that employs women in Uganda and pays school fees for vulnerable children. In 2015 she formed African Promise Expeditions (A.P.E.) as an offshoot of African Promise Foundation. A.P.E. provides opportunities for individuals and teams to work side by side Ugandans, form relationships, experience adventure and do personal development.  In addition to A.P.E., Suzy is a certified professional coach with a strong background in helping develop leaders. She also personally trained with Dr. Brené Brown and is a Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator. Suzy uses her gifts of kindness and authenticity to facilitate personal growth that transforms A.P.E. participants, leaders, and teams. Suzy has been to Uganda countless times and is well connected with other NGO's that help partner with her when choosing projects.  There are few people as well connected in Uganda as Suzy and she prides herself in leading safe, fun, and transformative expeditions.
